We interview adult children of persons living with dementia to better understand dementia care and health system experiences from their point of view.

Using a grounded theory approach, data collection is complete and analysis is currently underway.

We explore how and why Filipino families provide dementia care, examining family care experiences from a cultural perspective. Using reflexive thematic analysis, this project identifies and interprets the themes and meanings behind family caregiving.

Building on Family Perspectives on Dementia Care, this new study will explore the family experience of transitioning a parent living with dementia from home to a long-term care facility.

Nursing home residents with low needs were interviewed, along with their family members, to explore why they were living in nursing homes. Data analysis showed these residents tended to live alone and their safety felt at risk. Family members used many strategies to support residents to remain in the community, but they experienced breakdowns in the healthcare system when seeking support.

Through a systematic review of existing literature, we examined the experiences of siblings caring for a parent living with dementia — including how they navigate shared caregiving responsibilities and the impact of caregiving on family relationships.

This systematic review describes experiences of family carers living in rural settings. The findings highlight the challenges of dementia care for family caregivers and the opportunities and limitations that come with providing dementia care in rural areas.

Initiated by the CEO and the spiritual care practitioner of a LTC facility in Winnipeg, this study collected the stories of LTC residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. Approximately ¼ of the residents of the facility were interviewed and described looking outside through their windows while feeling confined to their rooms. They explained the “inside” challenges, “outside” challenges, and ways they coped. Spiritual care practitioners had a key role in supporting residents and advocating for their needs.
